• In vivo studies have shown that eucalyptol has bronchodilator activity, by relaxing the smooth muscles of the airways. Specifically, 1,8-cineole may block the influx of calcium across the membrane (the increase in cytoplasmic calcium is, among other things, the signal that stimulates muscle contraction). This property helps relieve coughs.

• Eucalyptol stimulates the exocrine glands of the respiratory mucous membranes, thinning secretions and activating the cilia of the bronchial epithelium to facilitate the expulsion of airway obstructions. Alpha-pinene and 1,8-cineole, also present in Eucalyptus radiata, have drying properties and help reduce mucus production. The essential oil is particularly effective on the upper respiratory tract, to decongest blocked noses and facilitate breathing.

✨ Antibacterial, respiratory antiseptic +++ (α-pinene, 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol))

• Eucalyptus radiata essential oil is an excellent respiratory antiseptic. It is particularly effective against bacterial respiratory infections, as it is active against certain microbial strains such as Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli. When diffused, Eucalyptus radiata essential oil can be used to purify the air. It is even used preventively in hospitals, in synergy with other oils.

✨ Antiviral +++ (α-terpineol, 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol))

• The combination of alpha-terpineol and eucalyptol has a strong antiviral effect on the respiratory system, inhibiting intracellular viral replication. Its action on certain viruses responsible for bronchopulmonary infections has already been demonstrated, such as the infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) or the herpes virus.

✨ Immunomodulatory +++ (terpinène-4-ol)

• Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil is ideal during the winter months to boost immunity. It enhances the body's ability to defend itself against attacks by increasing the phagocytic activity of immune cells such as monocytes and macrophages.

• Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil is capable of inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory molecules involved in certain respiratory pathologies and the hypersecretion of mucus, such as leukotriene B4 or interleukin 1-β.

• Eucalyptol is an activator of TRPM8 (a cold-sensitive receptor), causing local anesthesia through a cooling sensation. It is also an inhibitor of TRPA1, a receptor involved in triggering pain signals and activated by inflammatory mediators. These two combined mechanisms appear to be truly effective in blocking inflammation-induced pain.

• For the adults and teenagers. For dry inhalation, after rinsing your nose with seawater, place 1 to 2 drops of Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil on a handkerchief or the cotton wick of an inhaler and inhale 4 to 6 times a day.

Pharyngitis, Laryngitis

• For ages 12 and up. For oral use, mix 2 drops of Eucalyptus Radiata with a teaspoon of honey, to be swallowed or diluted in herbal tea, 4 times a day for 2 days.

• For ages 6 and up. Repeat 3 times a day until improvement. Place 1 to 2 drops of the mixture on a neutral tablet and place under the tongue.
• 20 drops of Lemon essential oil.
• 16 drops of Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil.
• 4 drops of Thyme Linalool essential oil.

Fever

• For children 6 years and older. For topical use, mix 1 drop of Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil with 9 drops of carrier oil (10% dilution) and massage onto the chest and soles of the feet twice a day.
• Eucalyptus Radiata is effective for fever when it accompanies an ear, nose, and throat infection.

Do not use for extended periods without medical advice.

If the fever is prolonged or exceeds 40°C (104°F), consult a doctor.

• From age 6. For dry inhalation, place 2 drops of Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil on a handkerchief or the cotton wick of an inhaler stick and inhale 4 to 6 times a day.
• From age 6. For topical application, dilute 1 drop of Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil in 4 drops of carrier oil (20% dilution). Massage onto the chest and upper back 3 times a day until improvement is seen (do not exceed 5 days).

• From age 3 months. For diffusion, dilute Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil to 30% in another essential oil (such as Lemon or Grapefruit) and diffuse for a maximum of 30 minutes at a time, according to the diffuser's instructions, when the child is not present.

• Suitable for ages 6 and up. For diffusion, add a few drops of the following blend to the diffuser, according to the instructions, then diffuse in a room for 10 minutes in the morning and evening for 5 days a week, repeating as needed.

  Although they belong to the same genus, these four species are quite different, and their essential oils are therefore not the same.

• Native to Australia, eucalyptus belongs to the Myrtaceae family and comprises over 600 species. Whether you're a fan of essential oils or not, you're bound to hear about eucalyptus at some point in your life. For a bit of history, the tree was discovered in the 18th century in Tasmania.

• Its common name comes from the Greek words "eu," meaning well, and "kaluptos," meaning covered, due to its stamens being perfectly sealed by an operculum. As with most plants, the Eucalyptus genus encompasses numerous species, some of which are particularly interesting because they produce essential oils with beneficial properties for various ailments. Eucalyptus Radiata: From Plant to Essential Oil

The secret of the Aborigines

• This large tree, native to Australia, boasts vibrant green leaves. Its grey bark can sometimes turn blue depending on the soil and sunlight. While its average height is around fifty meters, it can reach up to 120 meters. Aboriginal people climbed to the tops of trees to collect the leaves closest to the sun, and therefore potentially those that had received the most "positive energy." Aboriginal people also picked oil glands, small brown fruits that grew in cone-shaped clusters. Their seeds were crushed and mixed with water to form a paste, which was then applied to the sick person's head to reduce fever. One of their old customs was to burn the leaves in a sick person's room to purify the air. The pale yellow flowers were also valued for their nectar.

• To clean their water, early Australians floated a small piece of wood in a jar to kill small insects and purify their water supplies. They also used it as a pump: by placing one end of a root in a pond and the other in a container, the root pumped water from one side to fill the container effortlessly!

From the Koala Tree to Toothpaste

• This traditional Aboriginal remedy was acclaimed upon its arrival in Europe. It was nicknamed "the koala tree." Well-adapted to warm climates, particularly in South America and Australia, it was brought to Europe in the 18th century. It now thrives around the Mediterranean basin. Absorbing large amounts of water, it quickly dries out the surrounding marshes. It is therefore highly valued for destroying the wetlands that are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, carriers of malaria, among other things.
• Eucalyptus radiata essential oil began to be commercially available in 1860. Today, the main producing countries are, of course, Australia, but also South Africa, Spain, Morocco, and Thailand. It was initially used to disinfect instruments in English hospitals. Now, it can be used in the manufacture of mouthwashes and some toothpastes.

At the heart of the eucalyptus radiata harvest

• Eucalyptus Radiata leaves are harvested between October and January. They must be harvested when they are creamy yellow, a sign that they are fully ripe.
• These long, thin leaves, approximately 10 cm in length, give off a pleasant, slightly peppery aroma. They are hand-picked to select only the highest quality leaves. For optimal quality, harvesting takes place in dry weather so that the leaves are fully open. As with all plantations, the quality varies from year to year depending on soil fertility, rainfall, and sunshine.

Caution

• Very easy to use, unlike some other Eucalyptus essential oils, Eucalyptus Radiata (or Radié) essential oil is relatively well tolerated by everyone except asthmatic and epileptic people.
