✨ Liver detoxifier ++++ (limonene)

• Lemon essential oil is believed to act on the liver’s phase 2 detoxifying enzymes thanks to limonene, which stimulates the synthesis of glutathione-S-transferase (a protective enzyme that counteracts DNA and protein damage caused by toxic molecules). Limonene thus helps make these toxic molecules more water-soluble so they can be eliminated more easily.

✨ Anti-nausea, digestive ++++ (limonene)

• Lemon essential oil helps reduce nausea or motion sickness thanks to limonene, which acts on gastric motility. In synergy with the other components of the essential oil, limonene is also thought to have a protective effect on the stomach by stimulating mucus production.
• A study was also conducted on nausea and vomiting in a group of 100 pregnant women. The study showed that inhaling lemon essential oil effectively reduced the nausea experienced by the pregnant women.

✨ Antioxidant, hepatoprotective ++++ (limonene)

• It is the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of limonene that give lemon essential oil its liver-protective effects. This molecule stimulates the liver’s antioxidant enzymes (GSH) and regulates the expression of interleukins and proteins involved in the inflammatory response. Its role is to scavenge free radicals.
• It is also commonly used in combination with hepatotoxic essential oils to protect the liver when taken orally.

• Lemon essential oil has anti-infectious and antibacterial properties due to its effectiveness against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria (including Helicobacter pylori and streptococci). • A study has shown that repeated administration of limonene induces changes in the liver that improve its function. Lemon essential oil contains compounds that may lower total blood cholesterol and reduce the accumulation of lipid droplets in the liver by acting on genes that encode proteins responsible for regulating lipid metabolism.

✨ Cholagogue, choleretic ++ (limonene)

• Lemon essential oil is often cited as having an effect that promotes bile production by the liver and its flow into the intestines (cholagogue action). It is also traditionally used for these properties, which are believed to be attributed to limonene, and is helpful for hangovers or bile insufficiency. However, no scientific studies currently prove this effect on biliary function.

• For ages 6 and up. Take 1 to 2 drops of the mixture orally, morning and evening before meals, in a teaspoon of olive oil, for up to 3 weeks.

• For children 3 months and older. When using a diffuser, add the number of drops of lemon essential oil indicated in your diffuser’s instructions and diffuse for up to 30 minutes. Do not diffuse in the presence of children under 3 years of age.

• Lemon essential oil can be irritating when used undiluted: it is best to dilute it to a maximum of 20% in a carrier oil (1 drop to 4 drops of carrier oil), or even more depending on the area of application.
• The limonene in lemon essential oil can easily oxidize, increasing the risk of irritation and allergic reactions. It is therefore recommended to keep the bottle tightly closed, away from light and heat (preferably in the refrigerator).
