Le Baou Roux rises above the plots where we grow certified organic plants for our products. From its summit, the view stretches across the Mediterranean coast and the Mercantour mountain range. Here in the Pre-Alps, the mountains are surrounded by wild landscapes rich in biodiversity. The light of southern France and the Alpine mountains make these high plateaus a haven of peace, ideal for growing fragrant, aromatic and medicinal plants.

Growing, harvesting and processing plants is an endless source of learning: about the rhythms of living things, working with our bodies, observation, recognition and understanding… A place to marvel at so much complexity within such simplicity.

Some places quietly find their way into your life until they feel like the obvious choice. Le Chemin du Baou is, first of all, an address: my own. A house on a mountainside, hidden in the forest of Le Baou Roux, overlooking the Caille plain at more than a thousand metres above sea level. This is where I put down roots, in a landscape of silence and distinct seasons, a southern France between snow and sunshine.

Becoming a farmer and herbalist was not a break with my past, but the culmination of a journey. I began in finance, where I learned discipline and soon felt a deep disconnect between my work and my personal aspirations. I then moved into international development, wanting to be useful, yet still feeling that I had to work within systems I could not fully grasp. I founded and led an NGO for fifteen years; it now runs independently. It was a formative experience that taught me perseverance and adaptability.

Later, as a consultant working on sustainable supply chains for aromatic raw materials, I discovered the world of plants. I was fascinated by its richness and complexity, and by the human and environmental challenges surrounding it.

In that role, I helped build fairer supply chains and connect places with the knowledge and skills rooted in them. But something essential was still missing: a sense of rootedness, a complete alignment between what I did and what I believed in. Le Chemin du Baou grew out of that desire.

I became a farmer in 2019, initially growing plants for the cosmetics industry in the nearby Grasse region. It was an intense experience, sometimes a painful one. It taught me the realities of the work. Gradually, I changed direction and trained in herbalism at the school in Montpellier so I could take charge of the whole process: growing, gathering, processing, formulating and selling.

Today, I grow fragrant, aromatic and medicinal plants on one hectare of land, alongside many hours spent gathering plants in the wild. I process the leaves, fruits, buds and flowers myself into herbal teas, balms, oils, flower essences, macerates and tinctures. This work is a balance. It calls for strength and humility, action and patience. In my world, nothing is immediate. Everything takes observation, understanding and adjustment.

I work alone most of the time, occasionally joined by women changing careers who come to learn, experiment and simply share this different rhythm. In summer, visitors from different countries take part in life here. Le Chemin du Baou has become that too: a living, open place, always evolving.

Here, every plant is grown, harvested and processed with constant care. The formulations are deliberately simple. My products offer the essentials and nothing more.

More than a brand, Le Chemin du Baou is a way of working that reflects who I am. It engages both body and mind, rooted in a place, a rhythm and a direct relationship with the living world. For the first time, I can see my future in what I do. For the long term.

Wild thyme: pronounced herbal fragrance

Organic wild thyme (Thymus vulgaris) gives Chaud Dedans its pronounced herbal fragrance. Its flowers and leaves bring aromatic depth alongside the fruity aromas of organic hemp flowers and leaves. The blend uses the plant material itself, not thyme essential oil.

Ginger: spicy warmth and digestive comfort

Organic ginger (Zingiber officinale) adds warmth and a peppery bite. The part used is the rhizome, an underground stem commonly called ginger root. Ginger has a history of traditional use to ease mild digestive discomfort, including bloating and wind, complementing this blend’s after-meal character.

Common thyme (Thymus vulgaris) and creeping thyme (Thymus serpyllum) belong to the same genus but are different species. Common thyme forms a small, bushy shrub, while creeping thyme spreads close to the ground. The thyme in Chaud Dedans is Thymus vulgaris.
