COSMOS — the standard — COSMOS (COSMetic Organic Standard) is the specifications document behind the CosméBio label. Created jointly by CosméBio, Ecocert, BDIH, ICEA, and Soil Association, it has been the reference standard since 2017. COSMOS is not a label — it is the rulebook that defines what certified organic cosmetics must contain and how they must be produced. It governs both the agricultural origin of ingredients and the formulation conditions of the finished product.

Ecocert & Bureau Veritas — the certifying bodies — independent accredited auditors who verify that products comply with the COSMOS standard. Their logos on a product confirm compliance — they are not organic labels in themselves. Once a product passes their audit, the certifying body issues a certificate granting the right to carry the CosméBio label.
