What are hydrolats and how can I use them on my body? — hydrolats, also called floral waters or hydrosols, are the water-based co-product of steam-distilling plant material. They carry the water-soluble aromatic compounds of the plant in a gentle, alcohol-free, ready-to-use form that needs no dilution. On the body, they can be used as a refreshing mist after showering, an after-sun spray, or a light layer under a body oil or cream. Eucalyptus globulus hydrolat is traditionally valued in aromatherapy for a fresh, clarifying feel, while orange blossom hydrolat is often chosen for a soothing, aromatic mist. Store opened hydrolats in the refrigerator.

What is the difference between a vegetable oil and an oil macerate? — a vegetable oil, also called a carrier oil, is cold-pressed directly from the seeds, nuts, or kernels of a plant, for example sweet almond oil. An oil macerate is made by infusing plant material such as flowers or roots in a vegetable oil base over time, so the oil-soluble compounds of the plant transfer into the carrier oil, for example a calendula macerate. Both are used on the body as massage oils, body oils, and multi-use dry oils, and both can also be applied to hair ends or cuticles.

How do natural deodorants differ from conventional antiperspirants? — natural deodorants are generally formulated with mineral and plant-based ingredients to help neutralise odour-causing bacteria, rather than to block perspiration itself. Underarm skin continues to perspire naturally, and some people notice a short adjustment period when switching from a conventional antiperspirant. These are cosmetic products, not medical treatments; if you experience excessive sweating, speak with a healthcare professional.
